What A Blast!
ISAFE Plans ahead for the next green evolution in Sri Lanka
ISAFE, through its pioneering initiative, is laying the groundwork for the next green evolution in Sri Lanka. With a series of strategic discussions held with leading experts in the agricultural sector and related industries, ISAFE is advancing its mission to prepare the nation’s farming communities for a more sustainable and climate resilient future.
At the heart of this movement is our commitment to climate smart agriculture, with a strong focus on protected agriculture techniques. This innovative approach offers practical solutions to many of the challenges faced by Sri Lankan farmers, including erratic weather patterns, limited arable land, and declining productivity.
Protected agriculture, which includes practices such as greenhouse farming, net houses, and controlled environment agriculture, allows farmers to:
Increase crop yields while reducing dependency on seasonal rainfall
Use water and fertilizers more efficiently, reducing environmental impact
Minimize pest and disease exposure, lowering the need for chemical inputs
Grow high value crops year round, opening up access to better markets
Adapt to climate variability and enhance food security in vulnerable regions
Given Sri Lanka's agroecological diversity and growing climate challenges, protected agriculture holds immense potential to revolutionize farming practices across the island, especially in areas prone to droughts or excessive rainfall.
We now invite farmers, agriculture and environmental experts, researchers, policy makers, and all stakeholders who are passionate about sustainable development to join us in this transformative mission. Your insights, experience, and commitment can help shape a greener and more resilient agricultural future for Sri Lanka.
ISAFE will soon launch a series of specialized training programs designed to empower farmers with the knowledge and tools needed for climate smart farming using protected agriculture. These programs will be tailored to different regions and crop systems, ensuring practical and applicable outcomes for participants.
Whether you are a farmer looking to upgrade your methods, a researcher contributing to sustainable innovation, or a policymaker seeking effective climate solutions, now is the time to engage.
Join ISAFE in planting the seeds of the next green evolution in Sri Lanka. Together, let us build a future where agriculture thrives no matter the climate.
Farmers: Register now for our upcoming training programs and be a leader in the future of smart agriculture.
Upcoming Farmer Training
On 16-17 August, 2025
As part of this initiative, ISAFE is launching a comprehensive online training program on crop cultivation in protected houses. This program is designed to equip participants with all the essential technical knowledge required to successfully implement protected agriculture, including site selection, structure design, crop management, irrigation, pest control, and climate regulation. In addition to in depth training, participants will receive ongoing technical support, troubleshooting assistance, and guidance on accessing the many economic and environmental benefits of protected farming.
A valuable certificate of completion will be awarded to all trainees who successfully complete the program, adding credibility to their skills and enhancing future opportunities. This training is a worthwhile investment for any farmer or entrepreneur aiming to adopt modern, climate smart agricultural practices.
We warmly invite all farmers and interested individuals to take part in this program and begin their journey toward more resilient and profitable farming. Please refer to the flyer for full details and registration information.
